These are the cards we made Saturday, September 19 at Joyce's (mom) workshop. :)

Workshop pics #2 :o)

The guest only made the 6 x 6 scrapbook page and then I showed that even though they don't scrap in 6 x 6 how to progressive scrapbook...from 6 x 6 to 8 1/2 x 11 to 12 x 12!

Stamp Set: N/A
Cardstock: Chocolate Chip. Rose Red, Regal Rose, Certainly Celery and Whisper White
Ink: N/A
Accessories: Circle Scallop punch, 1 1/4 circle punch, 3/4 circle punch, small oval punch, large over punch

The last card was another rendition of the butterfly card I had done for SCS VSN this month. Because I had used some retired colors I had to do a change up!

Stamp Set: N/A
Cardstock: Old Olive, Curried Curry, Rich Razzleberry, Razzleberry Lemonade DPS
Ink: N/A
Accessories: Paint chip strips, Big Shot, Big Butterflies die, Old Olive ribbon

Workshop samples from yesterday

This first set is what I gave as a special booking gift to the hostess...this really cute desk caddy! She adored it! (There are still ONE more EXTRA SPECIAL gift to the hostess that books workshop #3!)

Stamps - N/A
Cardstock - Cameo Coral, Raspberry Tart DPS
Inks: N/A
Accessories: Punch, silver eyelets, Purely Pomegranate ribbon

This card is a dual slider card. I had taken a slider card to show her at our "play" day last month and she so wanted to make it at her workshop so I prepped it all and they stamped and assembled. They were in such awe! My mom booked a workshop for next month and they want to do a Christmas one with embossing...I told them it would reduce the number of projects because of the complexity with the embossing...and they were all game for that! Maybe we will make a bookmark or some small instead of only two...we shall see! ;o)

Stamps - Embrace Life
Cardstock - Bermuda Blue, Almost Artichoke, Pretty in Pink
Inks:
Bermuda Blue, Almost Artichoke, Pretty in Pink
Accessories: Oval Scallop punch, large oval punch, 1 3/8 square punch, 1 3/8 circle punch, round tab punch, corner rounder punch, Pretty in Pink ribbon, plastic bag strip, Sticky Strip

Another post to follow!

Saturday Workshop

I am so excited about Saturday! It has been close to a year since I have done a workshop with the state of the economy so this is exciting. I believe there will even be a newby among the group.

We are making a slider card with a flower set, the butterfly card that is posted under the VSN post and a punches scrapbook page (6x6 and I will show a progression page using my sample). I am taking the Big Shot so the girls can make their own butterflies...once they use it, they will buy it (kinda like if you build it, they will come).

I will be making a special gift for the hostess as that was part of a promotion I am doing to encourage bookings! First THREE bookings get a SPECIAL gift from me and this is the first! Wanna be #2 or #3??? Call or email me today! :)

December 19 we will be holding our annual Christmas party at my home. However, I would like to make this a special stamp day too! Oh it is adorable and comes with it's own little stand!

Technique Corner – Faux Linen
You can get this unique look by scratching the surface of glossy cardstock.

1. Stamp a background image on glossy cardstock. Ensure it is dry before the next step.
2. Use a light grade sandpaper or sanding block and make vertical movements up and down over the entire piece of cardstock.
3. Now sand horizontally; continue sanding until all the glossy is removed.
4. Apply a light color of ink over the top with a sponge brayer or regular sponge. 5. Lighten the color more by sanding over once again vertically.
6. Now you can finish your card! NOTE: You can stamp an image on this piece, add layers, etc. Make it your own!

Where has summer gone?

I look outside this morning and notice that the corn is tassling and the glads are blooming. Where has the summer gone? It seems like only yesterday the snow disappeared and here we are already half way through August!

The summer has been filled with lots of different things and workshops was NOT one of them! LOL I know that times have been hard for all. BUT I have a workshop booked for a week from Saturday! Woohoo! It has been SO long that I will have to work on my presentation skills! hehe

We are making a slider card, the butterfly card below (from VSN) and a 6x6 scrapbook page. Will be working on cutting this weekend. If you want to join give me a hollar and I can set you up with the address where we will be!

I am stoked with the new mini and hoping this will spring board some addition workshops! I ordered a couple of the Build-A-Bear things and will be placing another order for some jewlery this weekend.

I so can not wait until November when I will be doing a Jeweley for a Year in a Day Stamp Camp! Each participant will pre-order a charm and necklace then we will make 12 inserts, one for each month. Cost will depend on the charm/necklace the participant orders + $5 for supplies. Wanna join? Give me a hollar! :)

Have a blessed SONday!

To my dad .... who's b-day is Tuesday :)

The moment you died, our hearts split in two.
One side filled with memories, the other died with you.

Remembering is easy we do it every day.
Missing you is heartache that never goes away.

Life has gone on without you, but it will never be the same.
I saw this and thought it would be perfect for dad and his birthday.

My sister found this poem and sent it to me. It really expresses our love for him and how much we miss him...we love you daddy!

TECHNIQUE CORNER - PASTELS
When was the last time you used pastels? Here are a few pointers on using pastels. Get ‘em out, make a card or two, send me a copy and get your name in a drawing!

Technique A: Chalking
1. Apply pastel color to your card stock or paper with a sponge-tip applicator, cotton swab, sponge dauber, or stiff paintbrush.
2. Blend the colors as desired with the applicators or blender pen. When using blender pens, just touch the pen directly to the corner of the chalk to pick up the color.

Technique B: Poppin' Pastels
1. Stamp the image with a white Craft Stampin' Pad or VersaMark® ink pad
2. Use sponge daubers to apply the pastel color directly to the ink.
3. Blow off any excess powder. (Repeat this process if you are using this technique with a Two-Step Stampin' set.)

Technique C:Background Pastels
1. Rub a neutral color cardstock so the cardstock is covered with pastel.
2. Using a ruler and eraser, erase stripes of the pastels leaving a striped background. You could also use lids for circles, etc.

Technique D:Reverse Poppin’ Pastels
1. Rub cardstock (dark colors work best for this technique) with pastels.
2. Ink up your stamp with Versamark® and stamp over the pastels. This will PULL the pastels off the cardstock, leaving a crisp picture of the stamped image.

QUICK TIPS
1. To avoid smearing, gently dab the chalk rather than rubbing it across the image.
2. The eraser is great for removing excess pastels.

SEND TWO CARDS FOR THE CMC CARD MINISTRY AND GET YOUR NAME IN A DRAWING EVERY MONTH! DRAWING WILL BE HELD THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH.

PROJECT CORNER - PUNCHES
Here’s a cute little project that anyone can do! I saw this on the SU website and just had to make one. Isn’t he just adorable?

Items Used to Make the Punched Owl Card
• Big Shot
• Top Note Die
• 1 3/8” Circle Punch
• 1 ¼” Circle Punch
• 1” Circle Punch
• Scalloped Oval Punch
• Spiral Punch
• 5 Star Punch
• Smarty Pants Stamp Set
• Chocolate Chip, Creamy Caramel, Basic Black, Summer Sun & Whisper White Cardstock
• Chocolate Chip Marker or Ink
• Sponge
• NOTE: If you have a stamp or die of a branch you could place this on the bottom for him to “perch” on. I thought if it AFTER I made him! That would look adorable!

1. Take a 5 ½ x 4 ¼ piece of Chocolate Chip, place on the top of the Top Note die and run through the Big Shot.
2. Cut the Top Note in ½ at the points. Place the first ½ on the bottom of the card with the flat side toward the bottom.
3. Punch out your body details – Creamy Caramel w/ 1 3/8” and Scalloped Oval, Whisper White w/ 1 ¼”, Basic Black w/ 1” circle, Summer Sun w/ 5 Star.
4. Cut off one tip of the star for the beak and glue the very edge to the bottom of the flat side of the 2nd Top Note (or it can be placed on the Top Note after you place the eyes).
5. Glue the 2nd Top Note over the one on the card front. Make sure to leave the “points” up to separate the body from the head.
6. Layer the eyes and place on the head as shown.
7. Stamp “Be Yourself” in Chocolate Chip on the oval and sponge the edges with Chocolate Chip. Glue onto the body.
8. Punch a strip of Creamy Caramel and cut into sections for the feet. Tape onto the bottom.

See….cute, simple and adorable! What child wouldn’t LOVE getting this little guy in the mail? This could easily be one of the projects for a mom and me stamp camp for children ages 4-10. Please note that a mom and me day will involve the parents of the children too…a great way to network with other moms/grandmas/aunts, etc.

On mine I wrote be happy in black but it’s hard to read through the beads so I would suggest not doing this. L

You can use ANY of the hodge podge pieces to make necklaces, bracelets, earrings. I plan on making more to give out at gifts to family members for birthdays, etc. It’s a cute and inexpensive gift for those you love as well! If you would like to purchase one let me know. I will be selling them for $7.50 each (necklaces only at this point). You can ask for specific colors but be aware of the colors available in the Felt Fushion kits (Only Orange, Olive Green, Pink Passion, Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze, Pretty in Pink).

Times are Tough
As the SU year comes to an end it has been rough for everyone this past year. Just to keep you up dated, SU has had a reduction in staffing due to the slow down in this rough economy. Shelli was sad to announce the downsizing within the company from the top down. I know that my family has been personally affected by this crisis with lay offs – James for four months, Travis permanently and now me (minimum of two weeks, could be longer depending on GM). Please be aware that with tough times come tough decisions. I will no longer be handing out Customer/ Hostess Punch cards until the economy turns around. I will honor any that you may have in process. Please understand, this decision doesn’t come lightly but, with the loss of sales and income, it’s become necessary to take this step.

I realize that I am SOOOO behind! I was laid off for two weeks with no access to a computer unless I went to town! Thank God I go back on Monday! WOOHOO!

I do have some pictures to share but will need to save them to a flash drive to post. I never think about bringing the thing with me when I come in.

I will also be posting the June newsletter next week so come back and check it out!

We made the cutest necklace using the Hodge Podge hardware set and I can't wait to share it with you!

Also been going to FitZone for Women...lost 5 pounds and several inches in the month I have been going. When I went to Dr's appt a couple of weeks ago I had lost 9 pounds in two months. The one thing I am doing different is watching WHAT I eat and WHEN I eat. Keeping an online food journal on SparkPeople has also kept me accountable for what I am eating...trying to keep between 1300-1600 calories a day with 75-100 grams of protein!

WaterColor Stamp Camp March 2009

Here is a peek of the projects we did in March at Stamp Camp. :o) Enjoy!

The month started off as "Simply Scrappin' kit" but as I worked with my kit of choice for the month I really struggled with putting together cards that I liked so the last minute I changed my mind. I designed and prepped for this stamp camp in less than three hours. Must have been a God thing! :o

We used watercolor paper on all the cards with watercolor crayons and either blender pens or aqua painters. I love the way they turned out!

The weekly calendar was a CASE. We had went to a women's retreat at a near by church and one of the sessions to choose from was SU! demo...of course, I am going to that! :) She demoed the calendar using an 8 1/2 x 11 frame.

I will post directions etc later. Come back soon! I will also post last month's stamp camp - Fifth Avenue Floral! :)

Been a LONG time!

Due to the economical downturn in our home, we let our internet go as a cost save. Hopefully things will be up and going again quickly now that James is back to work! Yoohoo! It's been four months since he was laid off and he went back to work yesterday.

I will have to take some pics of the current things we have worked on, save to a jump drive and update my site during lunch! :o)

What's happening in our little corner of the world?

My mom, son and I all joined a 12 week weight loss challenge. We are starting week four now. Last week for me was a BAD week; birthday, sick for two days, out to eat ALL day Sunday and Mother-Daughter banquet...needless to say the scale showed it. However, I brushed myself off and back on track today!

I joined FitZone. I need to get this weight off and since I had to start ALL over with teh six month weight loss management thing again I decided I am NOT going to just sit still and not do anything. Granted, it's going to tighten the budget but that just means that I pack my lunch and eat breakfast at home (which is better for you anyway!).

James has two books published and is about 2/3 of the way thru book three in the series. Not selling as he wished it did but they told him from the beginning that it will take a while. He also became a certified personal trainer during his lay-off.

My daughter and her three children are moving to Louisiana next Saturday! I'm gonna cry and pout! Imagine them 1000 miles away. WWAAAHHHH!

Elimination of Double Sided Stamps

The current stamps sets that are double-sided will remain so for the life of the set.

There is one set in the occasions mini that is also coming out double-sided (which was in production before this decision was made).

The exception to the rule will be alphabet sets and sets that come as part of a kit.

Change in Catalog Program Announced

Shelli announced during a teleconference that we will be going back to an annual catalog. This will become effective in July of 2009.

How does this mean?
  • Beginning in July 2009, we will go back to an annual catalog.
  • The US Hispanic supplement will also become an annual catalog.
  • The Décor Elements catalog will continue to be separate from the Idea Book & Catalog, and will come out twice a year.
  • The mini catalog program will change to include three mini catalogs a year, each lasting for four months.

The mini catalogs will have a small selection of hostess sets available also so this will give you more of a choice when hosting a workshop / outside party.

This change comes from feedback on the current catalog program by both demonstrators and you, the customer.

Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes, Nature Silhouettes
Paper: Pacific Point, Whisper White, Riding Hood Red
Ink: Kiwi Kiss, Rising hood Red, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Big Shot, Big Shot Top Notez, Riding Hood Red ribbon,
Tag corner punch, Paper snips, Tombow adhesive

I always run of out masculine cards so when I got an email inviting
me to play of course I jumped on it. This has been a rough week
with almost continuous back pain so hubby helped me out as best
as he could. :)

The hostess said no birthdays or Valentine's...either thank yous or
no sayings. I decided to go no sayings so they could add their own.

I'm pleased with the look!

More snow today....

Will it ever end? I woke up this morning to at least 2" on the porch, walkway and truck. When I got home at noon I shoveled the porch and steps while James shoveled the path and end ot the driveway. I bet there was at least 3" of new snow today. ***sigh*** I am SO ready for spring to get here!

What have I been working on? I made 24 cards for soldiers, a card for my SS on SCS MM. What do I still need to do? The list is long!

  1. Another card for my SS this week!
  2. Two cards for my SS next month.
  3. A shoe box swap for Friday night.
  4. My "FAITH" scrapbook page for January.
  5. Get February's newsletter doen.
  6. Update my blog.
Geez...and when am I supposed to do all this! LMBO
