January Newsletter

I know I am a little ahead...but better to be a HEAD then BEHIND! :)

Another year is upon us. It’s been a rather rough winter thus far, with lots of snow and freezing rain. This year is a new year with lots of hope. If you send me a picture or a copy of your pages, I will scan and place them on my website for all to enjoy! What a wonderful way to get those pictures scrapped and to get into the Word of God! This month’s word is…FAITH.

Technique Corner

Masking
Masking makes it appear as though one image is behind the other.
1. Stamp your image on a thin piece of paper, typing paper works wonders!
2. Cut around the image as close as possible.
3. Stamp your image on your cardstock as normal.
4. Place the cut image over the top and then stamp the image you want to appear “behind” the main image.
5. Repeat as needed.
6. Color, layer and finish your project!

Project Corner
Visit my website on or after the 15th of every month this year and see special projects with directions that you may wish to make! If you make them put in a link on your comments under the post!

Some cards I had been working on....and a few more to come!

Here are a couple of cards I have been working on for Christmas - a couple for Secret Santa/Rowdy Reindeer, one for my mom's Christmas cards. Not gonna say which is which! hehe

The Poinsettia stamp is not Stampin' Up! I picked it up at a local stamp store between Shipshewana and Middlebury.

Cute Little Purse Photo Books

I made three of these cute little photo books - great for a grandma to carry in her purse! So easy to make!

1. Take a 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock and cut it into three equal parts (4").
2. Score each at 4 and 8"
3. Fold each and "work" in the folds.
4. Tape together one end of two of the sheets. This will give you five blocks in a row.
5. Tape the center block of the five to the center block of the one with three.
6. Cut your layering squares as follows: 3 3/4 x 3 3/4, 3 1/2 x 3 1/2, 3 1/4 x 3 1/4.
7. You will find, as I did, the top squares will need to be cut 3 3/4 x 3 1/2, 3 1/2 x 3 1/4, 3 1/4 x 3 otherwise it will overlay the edges more because of the "binding" edges of the cover.
8. Cut a piece of ribbon approximately 16". Tape to front and back before applying the layers.
9. Taa daa! So quick and cute!

Have fun and let me know if you try this cute and easy little book for your family gift this year!

Boy am I behind!

I didn't realize that it had been over three weeks since updating my blog! There are a lot of things happening right now that are keeping me going.

My knee has been just killing me for about 8 weeks or so. I went to my doctor who

diagnosed with severe arthritis and water on the knee about three weeks ago. He sent me to an ortheopedic surgeon for "shots". Well, I went Tuesday and that is NOT what he has in mind! He more than doubled the anti-inflammatory drug to 1000mg a day, Tylenol Arthritis 3X a day and 1500mg a day of gluclosamine. I have to go back for "weight bearing" x-rays. He said there are two things that he is concerned about. #1 being my weight...gotta lose it (like I haven't tried!)....and he is PRO bariatric. Says he has had many cases that have had the surgery and 3/4 of the knee problems went away. #2 is I am WAY too young for a total knee replacement. He also said a lot of people have arthritis and not a lot of pain. There may be tore cartlidge in the knee. Depending on how the meds work and the x-rays he will decide in three weeks what to do...whether to have an MRI done to determine the cartlidge. Some days there is so much pain I just want to sit down and cry! Others it is bearable. We shall see!

I did call up to Borgess Hospital to attend a free bariatric seminar on September 13. When I was talking to Cuz Carol (HI CAROL!) she decided she would go with me. Granted they do it right in her home town but she said she would feel better going with someone she knows. :o) Love you cuz!

Georgia had a bad mammogram a couple of weeks ago. Her doctor called her Wednesday (after being on vacation) and told her she needed to go back in for another mammo and a echogram (or something like that). She in Thursday for that and there is definitely something there. She was hoping to hear from her doctor yesterday but didn't. Now she will have to wait until Monday for anything more on it! Scares her because it was almost a year ago they diagnosed her mom with breast cancer!

We are having a large birthday party this afternoon for two of the four grandchildren. Jasmine turned 7 in August and Trenton will be 6 this month. So we are off to ladies breakfast and then to the birthday party. Then I need to work in the stamp room and prep for next weeks 5-4-5 class.

Oh...last night I did go to Ann's team meeting and we did a shoebox swap. If I have time I will post the cards that we made!

Hugs to all and have a great day!

This months Five for $5 class

We used the Inspiration Sheet for "Sketch an Event" for the basis of the cards this month. The stamp set we actually used was "Time Well Spent" and the colors we used were Cool Caribbean, Marigold Morning, Cranberry Crisp, Wild Wasibi and Whisper White. We also used silver brads in place of the eyelets. Enjoy!

If you would like to join us for Five for $5 we meet in my home the second Friday of every month at 7 pm. If you would like to do the cards but can't come, RSVP one week in advance, send me a check and I will email you a set with typed directions for each card!

P.S. The camera didn't take very good pictures! :o( They are rather dull looking next to real life! :o)

Where has time gone?

Wow! It's been a long time! I can't believe how fast the summer is going. We have been busy.

Last week (June 23-26) was VBS at the church. I went to work an hour earlier every day to be able to get to the church before 5 pm. I was in charge of putting together a nightly slide show of pictures taken by the two main characters of the "pirates". The theme was "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" from the Veggie Tales. James was in charge of the stage design and room designs. He worked every Saturday for eight weeks and every day of VBS to change out the rooms everyday.

Friday night we had an adult get together at a church member's home for soup and salad. The girls sat in the "den" and sang karoke, the guys sat in the living room and chatted while the young adults sat outside chatting. It was a very nice night fellowshipping with other believers.

Saturday God's Royal Hat Stampers (my official Red Hat Society group) went to Shipshewana and Middlebury for the day. Needless to say we spent the day shopping where I spent way too much money! I came home with a satisified tired feeling but happy and glowing in my spirit with the day spent with my friends.

I took vacation this week and have been TRYING to clean out my stamp room! LOL Of course, my kids have other plans! Tuesday I had to take the two middle grandchildren to the dentist then run the dad to Three Rivers. Wednesday I worked on my Bible Study for Wednesday night and then worked a little in the stamp room. Thursday we spent the day at my daughters as Mother Nature took down the electricity in our area for Wednesday evening and most of Thursday. When I came home last night I just felt overwhelmed when I walked into the stamp room and didn't do much at all. Today I spent some time on line working on websites and looking for a couple of things for my friend Georgia and my mom. Now I NEED to get off my duff and get it done!

Hopefully some time this weekend I can download some of the recent cards we have been making.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

TTNF!
Theresa

Last Friday's VSN MINI...four challenges to do...

and one more to do! I need to do the altered book this weekend. Carol came down for the weekend...VSN on Friday and Red Hats on Saturday! What a great weekend with the "girls"....even though it was only her and I on Friday with mom joining us on Saturday.

Anyhoo...here are my cards from the VSN. Once I get the book done I will post that too. Oh...and a link on how to alter a book too!

Ugh! The pictures won't download! You can go to splitcoaststampers and visit my gallery to see the cards!

Flower Card

Supplies needed:

1 - 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" cardstock, scored (Bashful Blue used)
1 - 4 1/4" x 5 1/4" cardstock (Certainly Celery used)
1 - 3" x 1 1/4" cardstock (Bashful Blue used)
1 - 2 3/4" x 1" neutral (Whisper White used)
1 - Scrap of Designer Paper (Picnic used)
Ticket Corner punch
1 3/8" Circle punch
Brad
Sentiment (Sincere Salutations used)
Ink (Basic Black used)

1. Punch out 8 circles from the DP with punch.

2. Place your fingertip on one side of the circle and bend the other end over your finger.

3. Press down to crease and then bend over to make the petal.

4. Repeat until all 8 circles are folded.
5. Once done, place the first petal on your paper.
6. Continue placing around the petals, meeting the points in the middle and overlapping the previous petal just a bit.

7. Using a Crop-a-dile, punch a small hole in the middle of the flower to place the brad. One thing you can also do is push the brad through the center and the background paper. Brads have a sharp point which allows you to do this without any destruction to your card!

8. Punch the corners of the celery paper and the two smaller pieces with the ticket punch.
9. Layer and complete your card.

Have fun! :)

A very quiet weekend...

...considering it is a holiday weekend!

Friday we committed dad's ashes to the ground at a very small family get-together at the cemetery. My sis and her boyfriend drove up from Kokomo for a few days so we could do it this weekend. We thought about doing it on his birthday but she is going to start college and that is the week of exams so there was no way she could get here then. It will be nice to remember him though on this weekend...Memorial Weekend.

Saturday my mom and I went to town rummaging. It's been a long time since the two of us have done that alone. We stopped at a few sales then went to Goodwill, thinking it was 50% off Saturday! LOL Of course, it wasn't...next week is! But we still shopped and I got Chad, the newest addition, quite a few onsies for the summer. They were so cute! One with Mickey, one with a dragon, one with Pooh, etc. I couldn't pass them up!

Today we went to church then came home. Travis took Stephen to see The Chronicles of Naria - Prince Capian so it is rather quiet this afternoon! James is reading, mom taking a nap and I am trying to update websites today.

Here are a few cards that I have been working on. The next post will be a tutorial on the fcard you see below. It was quite easy once I got going!

Hugs,
Theresa

A good weekend for stamping...

This will be a nice weekend for stamping. I think I will open the window and just stamp to stamp. I have a couple of cards that I have been working on for stamp camp...the only thing is that no one has rsvp for it.

I will download those cards along with any that I make tomorrow. Wish it was VSN weekend! That is coming in August. There will be some mini VSNs before then but I will need to get the schedule. I know the first one will be the last weekend of the month.

Hugs until later!

Friday, April 25

Today is another day...

and I am in the prep mode! I have my first official Red Hats meeting tonight for God's Royal Hat Stampers! I am so excited about it. I am hoping that the turn out will be good but we will see.

I have a workshop tomorrow morning at 10 am and then my newest downline ***waving at Diane*** is having her first booked workshop at 2 pm (thanks to my mom booking from her). So it will be a "stampin'" day tomorrow! :)

James and I took today and Monday off as we were going to do a long weekend together. Since things come up we will be taking off Sunday after church for the night and come home on Monday. Looking forward to some quiet time together!

I participated in a Card Candy swap and made up over 60 candies on Wednesday night! I was going to mail them out yesterday but forgot the address at home! Work has been so busy that I even forgot to look it up on the internet! So James is mailing them out right now.

Well, I am off to clean the stamp room (looks like something exploded in there after Wednesday night) for tomorrow. Once James gets back home we will be taking off for the day. There are several things I want to do today (look for a new dryer, get the sermon done for Sunday, get a haircut, etc.).

Have a great day!
Theresa

Brother....what a week!

CAN YOU SAY I AM GLAD THIS WEEK IS OVER!

I have been working from 7:30-6:00 pm every day this week until tonight. 4:30 rolled around and I rolled outta there! We had a big TS audit this week and I hate to say we didn't fair well. We shall see what comes out of this mess next week. I have some thing in mind that I may propose next week which will actually be good for a few people. I will spend the weekend pondering on how to present it. :O)

Tomorrow I am having a 5 for $5 class in my home. I am excited about spending some time with my girls. It's been a while.

Last weekend I spent doing VSN and had a blast. Granted I was by myself but still needed that time to relax and unwind. I have attached some of the cards I did....18 in all! If you want to see them all please visit my SCS gallery!
